Summer Camp (Grades K-8)

Children entering Grades K-8 will be provided fun experiences in the areas of Arts & Crafts, Science & Nature, Sports & Games, Cooperative Games and Swimming at the YMCA Pool. Campers must bring a bathing suit, towel, and bathing cap each day to camp. Any request for special groupings should be made at the time of registration only. The camper to staff ratio is 10:1. Campers must bring their own non-refrigerated lunch, snack and drink each day to camp. A special needs counselor is available and special needs children are welcome, however, individual supervision will not be provided. If registering a child with special needs, please contact the Recreation Division for more information.
Please note that Reading Recreation Summer Camp is inspected and licensed by the Reading Board of Health in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health 105 CMR 430.00 - 430.830.
- You must submit your child's immunization records and proof of physical.
- The immunization records have to be up-to-date and the date of the physical has to be within the past two years.
- The Recreation Division must receive all medical records at least two weeks prior to your child attending camp.
- All medical records must be reviewed and approved by the Town Nurse prior to your child attending camp. There will be no exceptions!!
- Medical records must be submitted to the Recreation Division each year as these records are not kept from year to year.

On or before April 11th:
Refund minus $10 in the form of a check or a full credit to your Reading Recreation account to use toward future Recreation programs.
April 12th - May 15th:
No refund checks will be give for cancellations. Account credits can be applied to your Reading Recreation account ONLY.
After May 15th:
THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS or ACCOUNT CREDITS GIVEN AFTER MAY 15th UNLESS A DOCTOR'S NOTE IS PROVIDED.

THEME WEEKS FOR 2019 SUMMER CAMP:
Theme weeks are subject to change without notice. Weeks will not be entirely based upon themes. Camp staff will typically plan a theme event on each day during the week.
Week 1 (June 24-June 28): LET’S GET SUMMER STARTED
Kicking off summer the right way!! This week, we will welcome vacation and say goodbye to school with lots of fun in the sun. Enjoy water games and a luau to celebrate the beginning of summer.
Week 2 (July 1-July 3): SURFING U.S.A. (no Summer Camp on Thursday, July 4th and Friday, July 5th)
Happy Birthday U.S.A.! Let's prepare to celebrate the 4th of July in this week of Summer Camp! Slip on down the waterslide, play traditional games and crafts will be centered on this Patriotic holiday!
Week 3 (July 8-12): ADVENTURE LAND
Come aboard the pirate ship and sail away to a far off land. Kids will enjoy a day of dressing up, building a ship (fake, of course) and even having a scavenger hunt adventure to find buried treasure!!
Week 4 (July 15-19): DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT
Join us for one of the most popular weeks of summer camp - DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT! Children will enjoy dodgeball games like doctor, bombardment, sea wars, free for all, and more! After all the practice, teams will be made and a HUGE tournament will be held!
Week 5 (July 22-26): LITTLE BIT COUNTRY
Round and Round Dosey Doe! This fun-filled week of country living is sure to get your little one moving. Campers will square dance, learn about plants and even get a visit from some barn yard friends.
Week 6 (July 29-August 2): LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION
Reading’s Got Talent! Inside of everyone is a superstar waiting to be born. Let us help you discover your hidden talent. There will be no shortage of bravado as we sing, act, dance and shake our way through this show-stopping week!
Week 7 (August 5-9): SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES
Light the torch and prepare for another gold medal week at our Olympics in Reading! Campers will participate in a variety of sports including handball, soccer, basketball, and of course, DODGEBALL! Sure to be fun for all of our Olympic girls and boys.
Week 8 (August 12-16): THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Summer is ending so let’s cherish being outside with some good old camping fun! During the week, we will play games such as Jump Over the River and Charades. Campers will "build a campfire” and lay under the stars.
